I was in an abusive marriage for years. I didn't leave before because I was afraid to. Because I had children and worried about being able to provide for them. Because I felt like I asked for it. Like it was my fault. Battered and abused women have their self-worth and self-esteem torn down to nothing.

The first time I seriously tried to leave, I got dragged across the carpet and ended up with carpet burn on my leg. He locked me off the internet, took my bank card, my driver's license, the keys to my car, and the hand sets to the phones.

Women are most likely to be killed when attempting to leave their abuser. In fact, they're at a 75% higher risk than those who stay.
