Partners are not always demeaning to one another. Although arguments are a natural part of relationships, constant demeaning of each other is very unhealthy. It will result in constantly lowering the other person's self esteem until they become very angry and strike back with the hope of rebuilding their confidence. This can get ugly and should be avoided. There is no need to constantly belittle the other person, try being nice and talking to your partner about this. If that does not have any affect, you have a problem and could be in an abusive relationship.
