It depends on what type of books and how busy they are with other activities. By 13 years a child should be reading fairly large and complex novels which will take quite a while to read. If they read for 30 - 60 minutes per day outside school and are fluent and confident readers it doesn't matter how many books they get through
Well, in my 8th grade year I read The Crucible by Arthur Miller, a Stephen King Novel (Tom Gordon was in the title, I think), and a few other books, going into 8th Grade I read: My Family and Other Animals by Rol (Don't remember how to spell his name) Dahl, and going into 9th grade I read Unwind (Don't remember the author's name) which was a rather strange book. Ask the teachers what would be good.
I'm 23 and still read teen books. i don't think there is a cut off age. read as long as you enjoy that type of book
