The only way is to completely ignore the tantrum, it's difficult, but the only way to stop it, after a few times when they don't get a reaction out of you, they will stop the tantrums Answer When my 3year old was naughty we put her on a small stool in the hallway for 3 minutes with an explanation that she must stay their for 3 minutes because she did this "........." and that you will come back and collect her after. When you go back ask her what she did wrong (you explained it to her earlier, this just makes them understand and remember that what they did was not excepted behaviour) and ask for an apology. Always have a cuddle afterwards to show her everything is ok now. If they are still having a tantrum when you get back to them repeat the steps. Never backing down is the only way young children end up obeying you as they are just testing their boundaries, the more you give the more they take, if you say something, do not give up on this no matter what. One night our daughter would get up from her bed every time we lay her down, we told her she must go to sleep and could get up when it was light outside then lay her down in her bed, she got up a few minutes later and we picked her up without saying anything else (we had already told her what had to be done now we didnt want to give her anymore attention than necessary as it is often attention that they want) and put her back in her bed. This honestly repeated itself for about 2 hours but do you know what? After that night we never had problems with putting her to bed again. So dont give in if you have made a decision no matter how hard the going gets because if you do, the child will think they have to carry on their tantrum for longer each time to get what they want in the end - you must be strong and be the parent, your child should not rule you.
