there have been changes in Canadian lifestyle since the great depression. In the time of great depression the home life style changed. The men lost their jobs, and women and children were forced to find jobs. Women were working as burses, cleric, and clerks. Teenagers boys found odd jobs to make enough money that would get their family at least one meal a day. Fathers watched helplessly as their wives and kids left to work. In this case the fathers lost their jobs and their authority. The boys felt that now that they were earning income for themselves, they were their own boss. No one could tell them how to spend their money, or what to spend on. On the other hand, roles, responsibilities, and laws have changed for women since the great depression. As the men lost their jobs women were forced to find jobs. Husbands who were the breadwinner before the great depression now helplessly watched as their wife worked. This led to changes in women's role. Women were the father and the mother, they had to do the outside work as well as house work. In addition to preparing the daily meals, doing the laundry, cleaning house, and caring for the children, women in rural areas also were responsible for the farmyard, animals, as well as the dairy and pigpens, the garden, the weaving of cloth, the making of clothes and household items, and so on" (making do) This evidently proves that during the great depression women's roles changed. They had more responsibilities than ever. They had to earn the money, take care of their husbands and kids, and also do household chores. In order for them, especially working class women to "survive" government had to pay more attention to them because they were the one's who were affected by the great depression deeply. As compared to today, women's roles have changed a lot. For example, today there are women, who are the breadwinner while the husbands stay home and do housework and take care of the children, so in some cases there has been roles reversal.
