As an Indian, I was taught to respect ALL ELDERS. So I do respect them, irrespective of their sex. As a human being, I was taught to respect everyone, so I do respect them, irrespective of age, sex, caste etc.I have a policy of starting off with a full meter of respect when it comes to any stranger, male or female. This respect meter does not distinguish between family and non-family or friends and strangers etc. People's subsequent actions determine whether this meter stays full or comes down bit by bit. It's just like in the Video Games.India undeniably has a largely patriarchal society. It also happens to be not very accepting of gender equality or departure from stereotypical gender roles.
