The phrase "hope things are going well with you and your job" is a way of expressing good wishes for an individual. This phrase is something kind to say to someone you speak with on a regular basis.
I imagine that it is more adequate to say : Hope you are going well. Hope you are good, may have a undefined sense, once "good" means "bom" and "well" means "bem".

In this sentence, "good" is modifying the word "everything". "Good" is an adjective and it is proper for it to modify the pronoun "everything": I hope everything is good with you. OK Note the difference in this sentence: I hope everything is GOING well with you. OK "Well" is an adverb modifying "is going,"

If you are asking what why do good things in life if you are going to die, then I would only say that it feels good to do good things. Other than that there is no other way for me to explain it unless I get very religious or philosophical.
As a police officer, your going to be dealing with mostly the negative aspects of the community in which you work(thats not to say you wont deal with good things either). Anything you can think of - is what you will be dealing with. If you've ever watched Cops, you have a very small idea of the things to come..... Hope that helps?
If you do what you say you are going to do, what personal trait of a good citizen are you demonstrating?
