A composite number is any real number who's factors are other than "1" and itself. As an example 4 is a composite number.

2 x 2 = 4

4 x 1 = 4

The number "3" is not a composite number and is therefore prime because it's only factors are 1 and itself.

Not prime - It can be divided into a whole number by a whole number other than 1 and itself.
