I think another similar term is go muscle, as opposed to show muscle. I'll explain go muslce, since I know what that means. I'm pretty sure its essentially the same thing.

Go muscle is real world usable muscle and strength, like a gymnest. Something like show muscle is what bodybuilders have, just to look as good as possible.

Go muscle, which is in essence the same as functional fitness, means that it can be used if real world applications. Surviving an emergancy, allowing an agent to pull off a physaclly demanding mission, having a friendly brawl. It pretty much means healthy, usable strength/fitness/muscle.
