SEGAEROBICS, ,SEGAROBICS or SEGA AEROBICSis a creation of Goolam Cader Ally which is a new beat on which Aerobics Exercises are performed. It is a workout to a different beat, specially the SEGA, which is the Mauritius Island National Folkloric Dance music style. With this same idea, since Mauritius is part of Africa, Goolam Cader Ally also created the Africaerobics workout style which joins the rhythms of islands of Afro Creole culture , such as the islands of Reunion, Rodrigues , Seychelles, Guadeloupe and even some South American countries , as well as some African Countries.
Goolam Cader Ally is the Founder /President of the Mauritius National Body Building , Fitness and Aerobics Federation and Chairman for these disciplines for the Indian Ocean island and holds several positions in internationally recognized Sports Bodies. He is also the Founder of Director: Aerobics et Fitness Sans Frontiere Vocational and Professional Training Institution of Mauritius and Rockotton World Gym --
Let Mauritius move you with its Sega.
Mauritius is a touristic island which is being visited by many people around the Globe permanently and the SEGA dance is a must for all visitors. Segaerobics is perceived to be another sort of remembering and feeling the Mauritian Folkloric culture.
In the Mauritian culture as in Most African Countries, dance begins at birth. Mauritian Sega Dance articulates celebration, energy, strength, individuality, spirituality, creativity, colorfulness and expression. There are wedding dances, welcoming dances, Body Vibro Dances and spiritual dances.
At first, the idea of Segaerobics or Sega Aerobics seemed odd. Then I thought, "Why not?" Certainly if there were aerobic exercises that were derivative of jazz and modern dance and African Dance, there could definitely be aerobic exercises that were derivative of Sega movements. That would be the perfect way to introduce others to the powerful energies of Sega dance as well as the benefits of aerobics. Thus, Segaerobics was born.
The first time it was introduced was during a Sports Awareness program in March 2010, whereby the Minister of Sports tasted and participated in the new beat demonstration. Then it was officially included in the National Health and Sports Synergy awareness program in April 2010, organized by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Sports. Several Ministers tasted the Rhythm.
In Gym classes, I began to take the movements from Sega dances and simplify them in such a way that anyone could do them. I placed emphasis on breathing (from yoga) and stressed the importance of each participant experiencing the way their body would move. Usually in aerobics classes, participants get so caught up in "cloning" the instructor they pay little attention to how the movements are making them feel. With Sega dance, one must feel the way their body is moving. I wanted my students to feel how the parts of the body move. The spine is the center of movement and making it more flexible would keep us active and youthful.
A Segaerobics class consists of a warm-up session (earth) where we concentrate on the parts of the body that will be used during the aerobic session. This is where we isolate various parts of the body--especially the chest and pelvic area and concentrate on feeling the natural movements or contractions. The next phase is the low-impact, high-energy Segaerobics (fire). This is when we use various simplified Sega dance movements and translate them into a choreographed series of movements that is guaranteed to burn calories, build stamina and create excitement. At the end of this session, while the energy level is up, we form a circle and each person or persons (depending on the size of the class) get in the center to do whatever they feel. This is when mind, body and soul integrate with the rhythms. The final phase of Segaerobicsis the cool-down (water). We flow into a slow stretching session where the rhythms sound relaxing, the heart rate is back to normal and we are ready to end the sessions with a more relaxed mind and body.
Some of the characteristics that make Segaerobics unique from other exercise techniques include:
* Feet are usually parallel with knees bent (takes the stress off of the knees and supports the lower back). Movements are done flat footed. Feet chug into the ground and participants step from one foot to the next.
* Bodies are close to the ground. There are no high jumps that may cause more stress to the body , especially the feet. So the movements are low impact, but high energy.
* Some movements are polyrhythmic (contrasting). For example, one part of the body is doing a movement on a single count and another part is doing a movement on a double count. So close attention to the body is necessary.
The '90s are time of more creative and original techniques. The trend already exists with salsa-aerobics, reggae-aerobics, yoga-robics, Afrobics and even gospel-aerobics. With such a variety, more people will be more easily exposed to different ways of getting in shape.
As with Segaerobics, they're all ideas whose time has come. The Segaerobics classes and techniques of movements A to Z are available on DVD. Segaerobics is also intended to all Mauritians around the World. Just E. mail.
