They may have caused some nerve damage. I walked eight miles in them. My toes became numb the next day and took many months to slowly recover. The arch support in the shoes may have been too high for my somewhat flattened feet.

An alternate cause may have been too much sitting and too many socks trying to stay warm in a non-heated home during the winter where it got down to 47 F and my feet were cold most of the time.

I'm experiencing "cold feet" at the idea of repeating either behavior to isolate the cause. How numb can one brain get?
