Why wont my 1998 land rover discovery turn over?
Several things can cause your land rover not to turn over. I would start with checking the battery. Is it fully charged? Do you hear a click when you try to start it. If so, could be a weak battery or a faulty starter solenoid. Those two are the most probable.

Because the land over is in "crash mode" a lock down anti theft service, this must be reset using a land over computer at any land rover authorized service center.

the only way to reset is to have a t4 testbook computer do it at the dealer or jag shop yes if it is the orange check engine light it must be reset with a t4 but if it is the red service engine light this is just a reminder light telling you that after 75,000 miles you should replace youre o2 sensors.under the drivers seat you will find a brown relay box on the top is a sticker with the land rover logo.Stick a straight pick through the Land Rover emblem until it wont go any further down.The light will never bother you again

Take it to a dealer to fix it. They wont fix it. They will tell you it needs an engine. Rover can not produce an engine for it. Rover will buy the car back. They are garbage rover wants them off the road. Even if you sucessfully reset the timing without the special tools the end of tne camshafts will eventually break off at the sprocket. rover techs are scared to work on those. I know I am one. Wont touch them

If it is a discovery or defender, try driving the car in a straight line rolling at walking pace in neutral and shift rapidly. If it is a Range Rover it is moved electronically and you may have a fault in the system. If you look under the car near the transfer case (located centrally under the car) at the rear near the hand brake drum you will see two heavy wires going to a small wiper motor. Try applying 12v to this motor to see if it will change ratios, otherwise this motor may be faulty.
