need to know if it is and automatic or a standard shift transmission Automatic has no dipstick to check trans fluid.
none, the trans am package came with a console shifter
Remove the linkage off of the trans and shift it there.
Loose hold down clamp or broken shift cable.
disconnect the trans cable at trans connection with someone on brake or apply the parking brake
My cam synchronizer failed and it was causing the trans to shift erratically and to slip
Inside the trans, on the side of the valve bodyInside the trans, on the side of the valve body
The Camry in 1990 doesnt have a shift solenoid. It was controled by a hydraulic shift governor inside the transmission. So the trans. has to come out and be opened up.
try changing the filter and the trans fluid
governor on side of transmission inoperable, not spinning its a centrifugal switch.
it is part of the trans range sensor. mounted on the right side of the trans. The shift lever hooks to it also
If it's automatic, then possibly low on fluid, trans solenoid problem, dirty trans filter. If manual, possibly clutch, throwout bearing, haydraulics etc.
