There were two Mercedes 280SL models. One was a chassis 107 car about 1973, the other was a 113 car from 1966 to 1971. The main fuse box in the 113 car is in the engine compartment, driver side, on the firewall in a brown bakelite box with two external nuts holding the cover on to the box. The inside of the cover has a diagram of what each fuse is for. RM, NYC
The fuse box for a 1988 Mercedes 560 SL is located on the passenger side right about the right ankle of the passenger when seated.

The fuse box is located in the footwell of the drivers side by the accellorator pedal. They simply pop out
in a box in the trunk:)
You would have purchased a new 1970 280 SL for $7,374.

The fuse panel for a Mercedes 560 SL is on the side of the passenger footwell. You may need to move the carpet pad. It pops out.
