It depence on your engine, most D5 10yrs or 96k mileage.
look in your owner's manual
It has a timing belt,
My 2002 S60 D5's pad's lasted till 70k when I got them all changed and but that's with a lot of country road and motorway miles :-)
This does depend on the year of your car. The original D5 was 163bhp, but later in its life this was increased to 185.
96K miles or 5yrs but much better if you do at half these figures.
It's a downsized D5, 2.0 liters 5 cylinder diesel engine (instead of 2.4)
Volvo Cars used diesel engines long before 1998, VAG engines were used from 1981-1986. Volkswagen Audi (VAG) engines where also used in 850, S70/V70, s80 and the second generation V70. The first diesel engine built by Volvo was the D5 which was presented in 2002. In 1979 Volvo purchased a precombustion engine from Volkswagen that came in two different displacements, 2 liter and 2.4 liter (D20 and D24) Today Volvo manufactures its own 2.4l 5 cylinder diesel engines in Skövde Sweden. They also use 4 cylinder engines from Ford/PSA. Volvo's own engines D5 185hp/400Nm D5 180hp/350Nm (special version for the P1-platform applications, ie S40, V50 and C70) 2.4D 163hp/340Nm New D5 205hp/420Nm (replacing 185hp engine) New 2.4D 175hp/420Nm (replacing 163hp engine) Ford/PSA engines 2.0D 136hp/320Nm 1.6D 109hp/240Nm

Yes it is. Unplug the battery, disconnect cables from alternator. Unscrew 2 nuts (13 and 15mm) and 1 screw. Remove the plastic regulator cover. Unscrew 3 more screws and pull out the regulator. In d5 engines is useful to disconnect the intercooler pipe. You're gonna need a short philips screwdriver and probably less than 15 minutes. thx
Is a very complicated and detailed process. The procedure should not be attempted by a novice mechanic. A complete instruction manual can be obtained from most auto-parts stores.
Different grades, D5 is like heating oil that has little to no odor.
