The production of the Land Rover Series III (3) was started in 1971. Replacing the Series IIA, it looked very similar in external appearance, however included some internal refinements.
The most major difference in the series 2 is the addition of the 'barrel roll' sides, new engines and some other changes to the body. no they are different. It will fit the same, however a series 3 land rover has syncromesh on all gears whereas a series 2a only has syncromesh on 3rd and 4th.

As Land Rover Series 1 is now one of the classic Land Rovers they are not so widely available. There are currently used Series 1 Land Rovers available on eBay, Gumtree and other similar sites.
