I have a 1976 CJ5 with a 304 V8. It has a 3 speed transmission and stock axles. But I'm running 36'' tires. And i get around 9 mile to the gallon.

There is no ONE answer to this question. Audi Q7 TDI, Chevrolet Corvette, Volkswagen Passat are some of the cars that provide good gas mileage along with comfortable drive.
Luckily, the VW Jetta is one of th emost fuel efficient vehicles in the country. The gas mileage in the city for an automatic 2009 VW Jetta is 29MPG.
The 1963 Volkswagen Beetle gets 10 to 12 miles per gallon. The Volkswagen Beetle originated in Germany and was designed by Adolf Hitler.
Volkswagens are known for their comparably high gasoline mileage. I don't know much about their mileage these days, but the classic Volkswagen Beetle and Camper of the '60s used to get an average of 30 mpg.
The Ford Fiesta ECOnetic has an incredibly impressive gas mileage of 65mpg. The SEAT Ibiza Ecomotive comes in close behind with 62mpg. Also at 62mpg is the Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion.
