A 36 is a 6 and a 35 is a 5 so I would assume that a 40 would be a 10, as in European sizes, but I could be wrong. That worked when I was in Thailand.

NZ sizes are the same as Australian sizes pretty much. To convert US sizes to an Australian/New Zealand size you add two sizes so a 2 in the US is a 6 in NZ a 4 is an 8 a 6 is a 10 and so on obviously to convert the other way take away two sizes so if you're a size twelve in New Zealand and you're buying US clothes on line then you should be buying size 8's. Officially, the shoe sizes haven't changed. Adult sizes are 6-11+ ; the 35 size is the European size. The majority of shoes are made in Far-Eastern factories so they have all sizes labelled on them.
