In short, no. BMW is only the parent company, a lot of the parts are made specifically for the Mini cooper. You can put some of the seats from the BMW line in the mini cooper though.

No, Mini Coopers are considered safe. They are made by BMW and try to keep to the same standards.
The distributor on the 1100 Mini cooper is in the same spot as the rest of the A series motors. The forward side of the motor right in the middle.
