Because the inspection lights are goverened by the Onboard Diagnostics Computer, you will need an OBD(II) computer to reset the light. Generally the only way to do that is to take the car to the dealer; otherwise the computer unit is very costly. The E36 model of BMW (all 3-series) can be the least expensive to repair. Their are 2 (two) different light resets ! 1) One is the oil servicel light. 2) Two is the inspection maintance light. Yes you can use a reset tool ,it didn't sound like that was something you wanted to purchase. The second way is to use the tripomter reset button.Their are 2 different instrament clusters used and what the say is slightly different. It also matters if you have gone a minum amount of miles or time,(as is the case in resetting brake fluid change lighgt.I'm going to refere you to bmw-planet.com or forums.bimmerfourms.com you should not have a problem finding resetting service interval light. good luck jeff.

how do you reset change oil light on chrysler grand voyager minivan 1997

if you are talking about the check engine light still being on after servicing the EGR valve, it will not go off on its own. it will need to be reset by a OBD II scanner. you can take the vehicle to autozone and they will reset the light for you. after the reset, drive the car normally to make sure that the problem has been fixed, and that the light doesnt come on again. it is a good idea to have it checked one more time before you take your vehicle in for state inspection. IT CERTAINLY CAN AND WILL RESET ITSELF AFTER AWHILE OF DRIVING
its not a light, reset with your key
The airbag light, on your 1997 Jetta, can be reset by removing the fuse. Keep the fuse out for 10 seconds. Replace the fuse back to its original position.
A person can reset the airbag light on 1997 Buick Regal by checking the wires and making sure they are all plugged in. Then by clearing the codes causing the light with an OBD scanner.
After repairing the failure that caused the code, the lights will reset themselves.
Remove the battery cables for 5 minutes, should do it. Then the computer will reset and relearn after driving again. If a major fault was present before, it will return via the check engine light. If you need an inspection, then unhooking the battery for 5 minutes and driving maybe 20-40 miles and then going for inspection may do the trick. There is a small window where the check engine light hasn't come on yet and the IM monitors are mostly ready for inspection.....just before the check engine light comes on again. It will pass, in this window. But when the check engine light comes on again, it will not pass.
