1. Buy or make a new shifter boot. I bought mine here: http://www.newbeetle.org/forums/show...new+shift+boot
2. Pull up on the boot so you can see the underside of the shift knob
3. There is a metal ring holding the knob onto the shaft-thingy; somehow either bend this ring or cut it or something... just to get it loose enough to slide the knob off of the shaft (god, this sounds gay)
4. Next you have to pull off the black clamp-like thing that holds the boot onto the knob; to do this just hold the knob with one hand and pull down on the boot with the other hand; it should pull the clamp off
5. Now you can pull off the stock boot
6. The bottom of the stock boot is stapled to a square plastic ring that holds it to the center console - Just undo those staples and now you're free from your old, crappy boot
7. Slip the top of the new boot onto the knob and put the black clamp back on the knob to hold the boot in place
8. Attach the bottom of the boot to the square plastic ring (for this I used a hot glue gun; worked great)
9. Stick the knob (with new boot) back onto the shaft and use a pull-tie to replace the metal ring you took off earlier
10. Place the bottom of the boot back into the center console
Four little clips slide under the edges to hold it in place. You can upgrade to a new style shift handle that comes with the boot for about $70 and it looks much better. You have to take the handle off anyway and it's attached to the handle in one piece. We have pics and a "how to" at www.trailvoy.com
If it won't shift out of park sometimes or all the time it probably needs a new brake light switch.
Show me how to replace the camshaft position sensor on a 2000 volkswagen new beetle
turn the handle counter clockwise and remove the leather boot, screw on a new one. if using an oem shift knob the boot probably will not snap back on, and you'll need some kind of adapter to match the threads, usually a plastic insert secured by a hex screw. turn the handle counter clockwise and remove the leather boot, screw on a new one. if using an oem shift knob the boot probably will not snap back on, and you'll need some kind of adapter to match the threads, usually a plastic insert secured by a hex screw

To replace the flasher on a VW Beetle, locate the flasher under the dash on the driver's side. Remove the old flasher and replace with a new one. This is not a fuse, but a three prong plug in that looks like a small cylinder.
it is a flasher fuse located under dash
New Zealand's largest beetle is the Huhu Beetle (Prionoplus reticulans).
the outer CV joint is a non-serviceable and non-removable item on the escort and ZX2. If it is bad it will need replacement. to remove the boot and replace it there are two ways to do it. (1) cut the boot off and replace it with a speed boot (a boot split down the length which then gets glued together) (2) either cut the boot off or slide it off. This method will take more work than the speed boot. This will require removal of the complete half axle. You will first have to separate the inner joint and remove that boot as well. Once the joint is separated, the tripod bearing will have to be removed. Once all this is done the new boot for the outer CV joint can be installed. If you do this method, you should also install a new inner boot as well.
on the APH engines, it is located under the intake manifold hanging from a bracket.
