Air in the brake system. Bleed the brakes again.
To bleed the brakes on a 2002 impala, have a helper pump the brake pedal then hold it down. Open the bleeder valve at one wheel, and let air and fluid flow until the pedal goes to the floor. Close the valve and repeat. When there is no air in the fluid, then move to the next wheel and repeat.
Just like any other vehicle. Google, "Bleeding Brakes" for complete instructions. Just remember to bleed RR, LR, RF, LF in that order, and never let the master cylinder run dry.
Bleed the brakes, adding fluid until clean fluid comes out from all four tires.
Spongy or soft brake pedal usually means there is air trapped in the system. Bleed the brakes starting at the RR then LR > RF and ending at the LF.
Always best to bleed both sides if you change a brake line. EG: Both front or both rear.

The Brakes was created in 2002.
No. Your normal brakes will still work even if the ABS Module is bad. You will however have no ABS function.
