When changing the transmission fluid of any car, it is important to know how much fluid to put in. A 2001 Pontiac Sunfire takes 2.5-3 quarts of transmission fluid.
You do not put Transmission fluid in any Mercedes. They are lubed with a life long synthetic that only a dealership can get. If you add fluid the transmission will last less than 10,000 more miles.

Through the dipstick filler tube
You remove the transmission dip stick. You will need a small funnel that will fit in the tube where the stick goes in at to check fluid level in transmission. Put fluid in there.
remove the transmission dipstick and use a long nose funnel and with the vehicle running in idle add atf (automatic transmission fluid) to the vehicle
put it in the place that says Transmission fluid. It Goes in the same place that the dip stick is in. So when checking for transmission fluid, if it is low, just add a little bit in that same place.
You use a funnel and pour it down the dipstick tube.
In the transmission.
I heard that you pour it into the tube that holds the dipstick where you ckeck the transmission fluid. They said use a funnel and pour it in the tube the stick goes in.
Checking the fluid on these vehicles isn't easy. The transaxle is considered by the manufacturer to be a "sealed" unit, to which the fluid doesn't need to be added unless a leak is evident. There is no conventional dipstick in the engine compartment, but rather a level inspection plug accessible only from below the transaxle.
