To elaborate on this a bit....It's only started happening the last couple of months. I don't think it is the thermostat because the fans kick in when the temperature gauge goes just after half way. But the fans don't seem to help; if I'm in traffic for a while or I'm driving at high revs, the temperature gauge flies up onto the red. This is only on short journeys, after about 15 minutes. I try blasting the heaters in the car to let some of the heat out, but this only works to an extent, and isn't practical in the summer!

I've checked that it's not the head gasket. Topped up the water coolant....

Any other things I should be checking?

Thanks!
