Drain the water from your radiator. Remove the radiator hose, from the thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Replace the thermostat housing gasket and reverse the process to install the new thermostat.

It depends which engine is fitted. The 1.4/1.6 petrol engines require removal of the cambelt cover and cam belt to gain access to the thermostat. This in my opinion is not a job to be tackled lightly. One mistake replacing the belt could mean a trashed engine!!!! The 1.8 petrol engine is quite a bit easier as the thermostat housing pokes out from the side of the cambelt cover. Sorry, don't know about the 2.2 petrol or the diesels.
Yes
if its the vauxhall 2.0 dte, the answer is NEVER ...the engine has a chain, not a belt!
You remove no pulleys. Just loosen the belt and then remove the alternator.
where is the thermostat
the thermostat will be found behind the cam belt cover. i don't think if you will have to take the cambelt off you should be able to access it without doing so.Thats what I've got to do because the thermostat housings leeking on my astra pretty bad so when I'm done ill up date you just to confirm I'm right on the subject. Just for Info, The cam pulley and belt need to come off to remove backplate from the timing belt cover.I found it easier removing the airfilterbox from the inner wing giving better access. Not a massive job..
