There are two main reasons: fuel and fire. First, check for fuel. Buy a can of starting fluid and spray into the air intake while cranking. If it starts, then you have a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump. To check for electrical continuity (fire), remove one of the spark plugs. Reconnect it to the plug wire and connect the spark plug body to a jumper cable, grounded to your engine. Try cranking the engine. If you don't see a spark on the plug prong, then you have: a bad plug, bad plug wires, a worn rotor, worn distributor cap, or worse of all, you've jumped time (your timing chain broke or is too loose).
Check you battery

Try replacing your spak plugs. I had the same problem with my 85 Monte Carlo.
A car not starting could be a lot of things. If the battery is charged and it wont start than look towards the start circuit. - If your battery is dead and that's why it wont start than look at the battery or the charge circuit. Hope this helps.

Check the fuel pump or the fuel ignition if its not getting gas.
Pull air filter housing. Spray a little starting fluid in carburetor and start immediately. If it runs for a few seconds and dies again, you might have a fuel pump issue.
A FUEL SMELLING PLUG IS USUALLY A SIGN OF A PLUG THAT IS NOT FIRING .
