Unbridled by Jude Dibia is a story of a woman breaking free from the silence of oppression dictated by a patriarchal society as well as breaking her silence on the various abuse she suffered from different men (including a member of her family). The story starts towards the end, when Ngozi/Erika is on her way back to Nigeria, after many years of living in England, to attend her father's burial. On her journey home, she recalls key moments in her life that led her on the path to England. Her recollection is not chronological, but the style employed by Jude Dibia is innovative and allows a reader construct a proper chronological journey.
Ngozi will drop her native name to be called Erika when she meets James, a Brit, online. They both plan her relocation to the United Kingdom. In England, Ngozi discovers that the grass is not always greener on the other side. James turns out to be something else.
Unbridled also takes the reader through the political and social changes in Nigeria in the 80s through to the late 90s.
At the end of the story Ngozi/Erika is unbridled at last and is able to accept herself as a strong woman.
