Cloverleafing is the practice of reaching out from a set point to those in a surrounding area. An example would be, a salesman just sold a product in someone's home. From that set point, he reaches out to the surrounding neighbors, through mail or door knocking, letting them also know of his product or service.
If you look at a cloverleaf, the center branches out to the surrounding leaves, hence the term - cloverleafing.
