The green knight made the bargain with Sir Gwain: I will suffer any blow you care to give me if in return you allow me the same. So Gwain cut off his head. And the green knights body picked up its head and put it back on its shoulders. And as the green knight was going to strike off Gwain's head Gwain started to bargain rather hurriedly. He got the green knight to grant him a year of life and a three part riddle to solve to save it completely.

The names of the four knights were Reginald FitzUrse, William de Tracey, Hugh de Morville, and Richard le Breton. It was on the 29th of December, 1170, and the knights came barging into Canterbury Cathedral. They stuck three swords into him, and with the forth they cut of his head. And, as gruesome as it is, they scattered his brains around the cathedral.
if you are asking other than the fact that he is green then ive got an answer! the green knight was extremely large and strong. he had a large horse to fit him and actually carry him (the horse was also green). also when he challenged one knight to hit him with the most powerful blow(he would return it one year later), his head was cut off. the next year, the night came to him and his head was back in its place. but actually the nigt was kind and was sent by morgan le fay to see if the knights of the round table were worthy and because the knight kept his promise, he proved the other knights worthy. ps im doing a project about king arthur i know what im saying trust me :)
Sir Gawain is from the legends of King Arthur. He fought and cut off the head of the Green Knight in 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight'.
