"Head" can mean toilet, or giving oral sex to a male human is often called giving 'head'.
However to me the most popular term of the word 'head' used around the 1980's and still some today is a person who is has opposite qualities than that of a Preppy, (or spelled preppie)
A Head is a person who mostly likes Rock & Roll and Heavy Metal and generally likes his hair long, or shaved all off. His clothes consist of sneakers and old faded jeans, and rock T-shirts and perhaps leather jackets. This is in contrast to the neat clean cut polo shirt look of a preppy.
Unlike preppy's, heads don't really care about their clothes being the hottest fashion statement. This reflects a more real down to earth person where as Preppy's are generally much more shallow and superficial.
Some heads use drugs and at times the term head is associated with drug use, but it is true to say, all heads do not use drugs.
I wanted to reply to this because this question is asked many places on the Net but there is never a mention of a 'head' from the 80's I think this is a gross oversight to overlook this term because the opposite "preppy" is still in popular use and thus there needs to be balance.
BTW, Rock On!
