The word Indo-European refers to anybody who speaks an Indo-European language, and more broadly, anything connected to them. The Indo-European languages make up a family of related languages which are thought to be descended from a common ancestral language called Proto-Indo-European. There are about 11 major language families in the Indo-European family and they are: the Anatolian dialects (including Hittite) these are extinct; the Indo-Iranian language family including Sanskrit, Pali, Hindi and other languages of India as well as Avestan, Persian, Farsi and related dialects; Greek; Latin and the Romance languages (Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian); the Celtic languages including Welsh and Gaelic; the Germanic languages including English, German and the Scandinavian languages; Slavic languages including Russian; Baltic languages including Lithuanian and Latvian; Albanian and the Paleo-Balkan dialects (the last being extinct); Armenian; and finally Tokharian which is extinct. Many people believe that Indo-European also applies to a race or genetic group of people but it does not. People of any genetic group can speak any language.

The Celts were living in England. Norwegian Vikings settled among them adding their language. Then a large number of Angels and Saxons from Germany moved to England and spread among the population using their language. The Danes the conquered England giving England a number of Danish words. Finally the Normans conquered England. The conquerors spoke French and added a veneer of French to the English Language. These various groups were not evenly spread throughout England but the language they wrote became used in the entire country. Still a difference persisted for a long time between the conquerors and conquered. The Norman conquerors ate Beef and Ham while the Anglo Saxons tended Cows and Pigs.
The source of "opulent" isn't mythological. It comes from the Latin root word ops which means wealth or abundance and is related to the word opus, which means work or exertion. All of the words come from the Proto-Indoeuropean root op- which meant to work or produce in abundance. The reason is seems mythological is because the Titan Opis, wife of Saturnus, is also called "Ops". The Roman and their predecessors used the same logic in naming their deities as the Greeks did. Ops, like her Greek counterpart Rhea, was a personification of the Earth, and to the Romans, all wealth and abundance came from the Earth.
It may seem strange that the Serbian noun 'grlo' is related to English 'girl', and it may seem even stranger to speculate that girl has come from the corresponding Proto-Slavic word. However, it all becomes much clearer and plausible if we know that 'grlo' in Serbian also denotes a head of cattle, usually a horse, and also a household member. Aditionally, the original meaning of the noun girl was "child in general" (boy or girl, and that usually marked with plural). The emergence of meaning 'cheljade' (members of a household) in relation to the noun 'grlo' (neck in Serbian) is motivated in Serbian. Proto-IndoEuropean root *guer- gained its expansion -dlo only in BaltoSlavic languages (ProtoSlavic *grъdlo (grdlo) > O.C.S. гръло (grlo), Russian горло (gorlo), Polish gardlo, Old Prussian gircele). In Germanic languages an expected shift had occured: Old High German querka, querechela 'throat', Old Islandic kuerk 'throat, craw'. In Latin gurgulio 'throat, trachea' has l, but doesn't have the meaning of a housold member and could not produce meaning 'girl'. The explanation for this is quite down-to-earth and is verifiable by geography and history. Namely, what we have here is probably the case of Germanic loanword from some Slavic dialect from the north of today's East Germany, the area where West Slavs (Sorbs or Wends) and Anglo-Saxons had been in direct contact!
