An author's tone is how he or she conveys the story. For example, if the author has a nostalgic tone or sarcastic tone, you can determine the tone of a passage by the diction that an author uses, like using "delightful" instead of "good," or just more specific adjectives.

The author's tone means what the author is talking about and HOW the author writes, like an example is: title : People who need help. the authors tone is help me!!

However, another author's tone on the same topic might be derogatory toward people who need help. This author might depict people as crybabies who don't act responsible.
