Main causes of exhaust holes are created to acidic chemicals generated by the working diesel or gas engine on combustion of the air/fuel mixture such as sulphur dioxide &carbon monoxide, and water vapour. The latter condenses from steam back into water along the length of the exhaust tube.The acidic properties with water'eat' or oxidise on the steel exhaust eventually leading to pin hole rusting.
