The first web browser written in Java was called WebRunner. It was intended to be a clone of Mosaic and was written by a team of programmers (among them John Gage and James Gosling) at Sun Microsystems in 1994-1995. WebRunner later became HotJava, which to this day is the best-known browser written in Java.
