Drop forging is when half of the die is dropped from a height onto the other half of the die, which will contain the hot metal workpiece to be formed. Drop forging is used for mass production.

Press forming is instead of dropping half the die onto the other half the two halves are put together and pushed together under a large pressure (up to about 10000 tons) forming the object

the difference is that drop forming leaves the centre of the metal not so hard as the outside, but press forming gives more uniform hardness for larger components

What is press forging?

Press forging considered as a method of forging that involves the slow and continuous application of pressure on the workpiece. This method is different from the heavy and quick blows used in drop and hammer forging. Press forging could be done either hot or cold. cwr forging

What is an Examples of press forging and machine forging and smith and drop forging?

An example of press forging is shaping an intricate metal component using hydraulic or mechanical presses. Machine forging involves using automated equipment like hammers or presses to shape metal parts with precision. Smith forging is traditional blacksmithing techniques done by hand, while drop forging uses specialized dies and hammers to shape metal parts through controlled impact.

What are the differences between open die forging and close die forging?

-Open Die Forging is taking hot steel and shaping it with "flat" dies (sometimes angled; sometimes used for making "steel wheels".) Open die forging is mainly used to elongate steel. -Closed Die Forging is taking hot steel and shaping it with impression specific dies such as tie rods, crank shafts, and yokes. -In some cases parts need to be open forged, then closed forged. We are a Chinese drop forging company for various closed die forging parts, check our website dropforging.net and contact us while there is any inquiry!

What is the difference between a -10 and a -8 fast pitch bat?

The difference between these bats is the difference between the ratio of their weights and lengths. An example of a drop 10 bat you be on that is 33 inches in length and 23 ounces. A drop 8 bat would be 33 inches long, but weigh 25 ounces. Drop describes the ration between weight and length.

What is potential drop?

There is no difference between potential difference and potential drop. Both terms refer to the difference in voltage (i.e. potential) across a component. Depending on how you look at it, both terms can refer to positive or negative differences, i.e. drop, for instance, can be negative, implying a rise.

Why use drop forging?

Drop forging is used to produce metal components with improved strength, toughness, and resistance to fatigue compared to components made using other manufacturing methods like casting or machining. The process involves shaping metal under high pressure, which results in the alignment of the grain structure along the shape of the part, leading to superior mechanical properties. Additionally, drop forging provides better dimensional accuracy and surface finish, reducing the need for additional machining operations.
