A ring-main unit is a piece of switchgear used on high-voltage distribution ring-main systems (e.g. in the UK at 11 kV). Essentially, it's three switches incorporated into one device used to connect a transformer to a high-voltage ring main. It allows the transformer to be connected/disconnected to the ring main and it also allows the ring main to be 'broken'. Each of the switches has three positions: open, closed, or earthed (grounded); the earth position allows the transformer or either (or both) halves of the ring main to be earthed when maintenance is required.

Is feeder protection relay and ring main unit protection relay same?

No there not same

What is RMU?

An 'RMU' is a 'ring-main unit', a type of switchgear used to connect distribution transformers to an underground, secondary-distribution (11 kV in the UK), cable ring-main system. It enables the transformer to be disconnected from the ring main, and it also enables the ring main itself to be 'split' where the RMU is installed. Each of the three switches within an RMU usually incorporates an 'earth' (ground) position, which will enable either the transformer itself, or the ring main to be earthed for safety reasons before any maintenance work can proceed.

What is rm6 by schneider?

A piece of Medium Voltage switchgear, commonly referred to as a "Ring Main Unit" (RMU), It reticulates power to other MV pieces of equipment such as transformers.

What is meaning of ring main unit?

A standard piece of switchgear in distribution systems comprising of switches for switching power cable rings and of switches in series with fuses for the protection of distrbution transformers. RMU: Ring Main Unit. RMU used for H.T.side. RMU is having 3no.s of switches(Circuit Breakers or Isolators or LBS), it is used for two inputs with mechanical or electrical interlock and one outgoing to the load. Either one input with two outgoings. RMU used for redundancy feeder's purpose. Ring main unit is used in a secondary distribution system. It is basically used for an uninterrupted power supply. Alongside, it also protects your secondary side transformer from the occasional transient currents. Depending on your applications and loading conditons you can use a swicth fuse combination or a circuit breaker to protect the transformer. This transformer connected to the switch fuse/ circuit breaker is called your T off. In a common arrangement you have Load break swicthes on both the sides of your T off. Ring main Units come in standard ratings of 11/22/33 kV, 630/1250 A, 21 KA/3 secs.

What is the difference between a radial circuit and a ring final circuit?

A 'ring final circuit', or 'ring-main system', is one in which the line conductor starts and ends at the same line terminal, and the neutral conductor starts and ends at the same neutral terminal in the consumer unit. This means that line current can flow it two opposite directions to the same load, meaning that the current-carrying capacity of the conductors is effectively larger than it would be if the same cross-sectional area conductors were used in a radial system. Loads connected to the ring main are then individually fused using fused plugs.A 'radial circuit' is one in which only one end of the circuit is connected to the line and neutral terminals, with opposite end terminating at a load.Ring final circuits are more-or-less unique to the United Kingdom, and were introduced around 1947 when a large house-building programme was established to compensate for the amount of properties destroyed in the second world war. At the same time, there was a shortage of copper, and a ring main system was a method of saving copper without reducing load capacity.

What is the use of ring main unit?

ring main unit is distributing the power supply to meter cubicalAnswerA ring-main unit (rmu) is a piece of switchgear that is used to connect a transformer's primary winding to a high-voltage ring main. It consists of three load-breaking switches, each with three positions: 'on', 'off', and 'earth'. They enable the transformer to be connected/disconnected to the ring; the ring to be 'broken'; or the transformer to be connected to either half of the broken ring. The 'earth' positions allow the transformer's secondary to be earthed, or either half of the (broken) ring to be earthed.

What the difference between the Ring Main Unit and the Extensible Oil Switch?

Ring Main Unit (RMU) is suppose to work in medium voltage. It is flexible and allows a free flow and maintains continuity. These are very compact in size. RMU are both Extensible & Non-extensible types.

What do you mean by packages?

Prefabricated power distribution substation Its basically a whole 11kv substation but in one unit. It contains a transformer, ring main unit, fuse board and circuit breakers etc. It still uses as much space as a normal substation that houses a separate transformer, ring main unit etc but is easier to transport and is probably cheaper.
