Bioengineering and other advanced science fields are becoming very prominent in these times.
A bachelors degree (4-5 years) is needed. Bioengineering is an emerging field, so some universities don't yet have a bioengineering degree. At my school, bioengineering is a concentration (like a minor) within Chemical Engineering. Other schools, such as Rice University in Texas, have a bioengineering degree program already in place. Check with whatever school you are considering to see what they offer.
adaptive bioengineering is using examples from nature and adapting them to human use, such as whales have grooves in their fins which decrease co-efficient drag and use this on wind turbines to increase efficiency
Bioengineering is an exciting field of science. Major developments in bioengineering include the development of artificial joints, the heart pacemaker, and kidney dialysis. It combines the fields of engineering, biology, and medicine. A bioengineer must be well versed in his or her knowledge of human health and be well-trainined in a field of engineering such as mechanical or chemical engineering. In order to become a bioengineer, a series of important steps should be followed:First, determine your interest in as well as your commitment to this field. Bioengineering is a service-oriented field that requires problem solving and applied skills in both medicine and biology. Bioengineering requires advanced training and a good candidate for bioengineering is intelligent and well-trained in mathematics, science, and engineering. As a high school student, a strong base of mathematics, science, and english courses will help you to meet the entrance requirements in your university program.Second, begin your college education in engineering. Search for a university that offers an accredited engineering program. This can be done by contacting the Accredidation Board of Engineering and Technology. Bioengineering is a diverse field and it is important to enroll in a wide range of courses such as mathematics, life and physical sciences, engineering (even mechanical engineering or electrical engineering in order to become a well-rounded engineer). Most bachelor’s programs in engineering can be done in 4 years, but may take 5 years. During this time, students become familiar with medical devices or imaging such as MRIs and also may be trained to develop new technology and the development of medical instruments and devices. Also, a design course and a laboratory course are commonly included in the course of study.Third, decide whether you will choose an entry-level position in bioengineering or continue with graduate training. Undergraduate training is needed for entry level positions such as offices and industrial sites. Graduate training is required for faculty positions, and for employment in the areas of research and development.
