After 20 years of research ASIMO can, with a natural human type movenents, walk on amost all uneven surfaces and slopes, climb stairs, run, and turn smoothly. It can obey basic spoken commands and recognize faces that it knows. It can recognise and name objects, and reach out and grasp them. By mapping its surroundings with camera 'eyes' ASIMO can avoid moving and static objects. Because of it great advances in the understanding of human movement have been made and as a consequence, significant developments in animated prosthetic limbs.
