I'm in the process of research this myself, but here's what I know thus far. -Most of the information I've read recommend putting in a subfloor. You can put styrofoam insulation down on the floor, build a 2x4 frame (much like a stud wall only laying on the floor), and then lay down a plywood subfloor. This now really lets you pick and choose what you want. You could go hardwood, but I'd probably avoid that because the humidity in the air will still affect the wood. Engineered Hardwood is an option, as is carpet, tile or linoleum. The disadvantage to this is the expense and also the fact that you will lose some height in the room.
