The combustion air will not be able to go out the chimney. Since it has to go somewhere it will leak out the boiler into the boilerroom. If the boiler is air tight the pressure inside the boiler furnace will become high enough that the air will surge or run backwards out the forced air fan. This could lead to combustion outside the boiler, explosion or at least filling the boiler room with smoke and poisonous gasses.

The flue on our gas fired hot water system once became jammed shut. It was the smell of incomplete combustion that alerted me to a problem. If it had happened when everyone was asleep or no one was home, the house would have filled with carbon dioxide.

What is the correct flue classification for a solid fuel boiler when connected to a brick flue?

The correct flue classification for a solid fuel boiler connected to a brick flue is typically classified as Class 2. It is important to ensure that the flue meets the necessary building regulations and safety standards to prevent any potential hazards. Professional installation and regular maintenance are recommended to ensure the system operates safely and efficiently.

Use Flue in a sentence?

the flue pipe from my boiler runs directly to the hole in the chimney

What causes small external oxidation sites on a boiler flue that connects directly to the chimney?

plumbing your toilet into the boiler

What is an atmospheric boiler?

ATMOSPHERIC BOILERa boiler on which combustion air/flue gases are drawn through the boiler without a fan.(Taken directly from the Crown Boiler Co. web-site.)

What is the purpose of a bypass on an industrial boiler economiser?

If the boiler fuel contains Sulphur (and most do) combustion products in the flue gas will include Oxides of Sulphur (SO2 and SO3). SO3 combines with water (H2O) to make Sulphuric Acid (H2SO4). If the temperature of the flue gas falls below the dew point, the combination of the acid with the moisture in the flue gas causes corrosion of the flue gas duct work. Bypassing the economiser in the early stages of a boiler start keeps the flue gas temperature above the dew point.

What is economizer in boiler?

Economizer is an accessory of boiler that recovers the waste heat from the flue gas blown out of the boiler. Thus it actually "economizes" the operational cost or in other words, improves the efficiency of fuel utilisation in the boiler. The temperature of the flue gases ( the mixture of burnt fuel & air ) depends up on the steam pressure ( temperature more precisely ). Higher the steam pressure generated, the higher is the flue gas temperature. Economizer is a heat exchanger which exchanges heat between water ( which is fed in to the boiler ) & the flue gas. It means it increases the temperature of the feed water using the otherwise wasted heat of the flue gas. So the water entering the boiler has higher temperature compared to the one without this economizer. This higher temperature of water requires less amount of heat to generate steam so the operation becomes "economical". Similarly the economizer can also work to heat up the air entering the boiler through the flue gas heat, instead of heating the water.

What is the correct flue classification for a solid fuel bolier when connected to a brick flue?

The correct flue classification for a solid fuel boiler connected to a brick flue is usually Class 1. This type of flue is designed for solid fuel appliances and provides a high level of safety and performance. It is important to ensure that the flue meets building regulations and is installed correctly by a qualified professional.

What is boiler draught?

The flow of flue gases in chimney due to difference in pressure i.e cold atmospheric air outside and hot gases in chmney is called as boiler draught.

Why direction of water and flue gases are opposite in bacock and wilcox boiler?

because of heat transfer rate is better

Is the flue a virus?

No, a flue is not a virus. A flue is a duct, pipe, or chimney for conveying exhaust gases from a fireplace, furnace, boiler, or smokestack. On the other hand, a virus is a small infectious agent that can replicate only inside the living cells of an organism.

What is the need of Purging in boiler?

purging is a cleaning process which cleans explosive items in air, flue gas path if any.

Boiler goes out after few mins?

Look at the control board for any flashing light for a diagnostic code, without the make and model # I can tell you there are several areas that can be causing this, low or high water level, high temps, the flue being blocked or the pressure switch not closing etc.
