If the pressure in a steam boiler exceeds a set limit, a safety valve is provided that will open to relieve the pressure. This prevents a boiler explosion. When the pressure is being relieved in this way, very hot steam will be release from the valve. The hot steam is extremely dangerous to people, therefore a discharge is provided. This is a pipe or other means of directing the hot steam to a release point outside, away from where people are likely to be.
The essential parts of a nuclear reactor are :
1. Nuclear fuel :The nuclear fuel used in a nuclear reactor is the enriched 92U235.T he nuclear fuel is sealed in along ,narrow metal tubes called fuel rods . The enriched 92U235 ensures that at least one of the neutrons produced by a fission reaction has a good chance of causing fission in another 92U235 nucleus.
2.Moderator: The neutron released by fission normally move very fast .At this high speed , the chance of a neutron being captured by another 92U235 nucleus is very small , If the neutron is slowed , its chance of capture is much better . In order to slowed down the fast fission neutrons, A moderator is used .
3. Control rods :In order to control the rate at which fission reaction occurs , control rods of neutron - absorbing material (eg. cadmium) are used .The control rods keep the net rate of production of neutrons to the required level by capturing the necessary proportion of neutrons before they initiate fission. When the control are moved upward out of the reactor , the number of neutrons left to produce fission is increased .On the other hand , when the control rods are lowered , the number of neutrons producing fission is decreased .
4. Coolant : The propose of the coolant is to removed heat from the reactor core and take it to the place of its utilisation eg. steam turbine.
5. Protective shield : In a nuclear reactor ,many types of harmful radiations are emitted .In order to prevent this radiations from reaching the persons working near the reactor , the reactor is enclosed in thick concrete walls.
Raise the pressure in the boiler until the valve relieves and note the pressure at which it does so.
The lifting pressure is set by turning the adjusting nut on top of the valve.
The function of back pressure valve is to prevent back flow to the pump in case there is an obstruction on downstream side of valve.
There is no range on a safety valve. It lifts and relieves at whatever it`s setpoint is. As for the setpoint, it would be just above the maximum working pressure/temperature of the water side of the boiler as stated on the National Board Tag of the vessel.
RUN!
Safety valve simmering how can setting
standby valve,
Raise the pressure in the boiler until the valve relieves and note the pressure at which it does so.
the safety valve is mounted on the top of drum because, if the water level in boiler decreases a certain value, the temperature gets increased in water drum because of lack of water. So, increase in temperature result in high pressure in steam drum, as the safety valve is designed to withstand a certain pressure, after a cetain pressure, the safety valve is removed by high pressure of steam. this is why the safety valve is mounted on top of boiler drum. +++ Shall we sort out that lot? That answer is wrong. Its only link with water-level is that the valve has to be above the water anyway. If the boiler runs dry the safety-valve will not protect it. The safety-valve is there to prevent the steam pressure rising to a potentially a dangerous level. It is set to open at the boiler's designed working pressure.
Boiler mountings are different fittings and devices which are necessary for the operation and safety of a boiler .e.g. pressure gauge, safety valves , steam stop valve etc Normally these device are mounted over boiler shell .Boiler Accessories are auxilary plants or parts required for steam boilers for their proper operation and to increase efficiency of the boiler .e.g.feed pumps, super heater , economiser etc
I believe that is 15 PSI on a low pressure steam boiler
The lifting pressure is set by turning the adjusting nut on top of the valve.
The function of back pressure valve is to prevent back flow to the pump in case there is an obstruction on downstream side of valve.
The function of steam stop valve to supply steam to steam maniform and the function safety valve to prevent the steam high pressure over.
The Superheater safety valve must be the lowest set safety valve on any boiler, in order that flow through the superheater is maintained. If the drum valve were set lower the flow through the superheater would be disrupted on an overpressure.
There is no range on a safety valve. It lifts and relieves at whatever it`s setpoint is. As for the setpoint, it would be just above the maximum working pressure/temperature of the water side of the boiler as stated on the National Board Tag of the vessel.
2 times the pressure at which the safety valve is set.
