The longest bridge running over a single body of water in the world is now the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge in China. 42km in length, it links China's eastern port city of Qingdao to the island of Huangdao. The bridge cost over $1.4 billion to build and was completed in mid-2011.

From what I've been able to find, at least until April 21,2008, the Sky Gate Bridge R, which links man-made island of Kansai Airport to the Japanese mainland is the longest truss bridge in the world. It links the Japanese city of Kobe on the mainland of Honshū to Iwaya on Awaji Island.
