Steel reinforcement bars add stability to concrete walls Do they also enhance the insulating value of concrete?

Concrete does not have a very good insulating value, and neither does steel. The mixture of the two will add structural stability to what you are building, but it (commonly) will not enhance the concrete's insulating value.

What can you do with concrete?

With concrete and precast concrete you can build fences, walls, concrete sound walls, pre-cast concrete perimeter walls, masonry walls, masonry screen walls and more! If you are interested in having a concrete or precast fence, perimeter, sound wall, masonry wall or masonry screen wall, then go to the links below for more information. Well you can make walls, houses, bricks and so on.

Are concrete blocks cheaper then a concrete slab?

That's sort of a strange question. A concrete slab is a horizontal surface -- it's meant to be a surface you stand on or build things on. Concrete blocks are usually used for vertical surfaces -- walls. I believe that poured concrete walls are more expensive than concrete block walls. You wouldn't use concrete blocks as a substitute for a concrete slab.

Are poured concrete walls better than concrete block walls?

It depends on the application. For homes, masonry is fine as long as it is insulated well against the weather. Masonry rarely needs maintenance. Concrete walls are stronger and last longer than masonry but are more costly to construct. For basement walls, I suggest that you always use concrete walls. Above ground level, masonry is cheaper and strong enough for residential and commercial, multi-story applications. For retaining walls, 8" thick masonry works well up to about 8 feet of retained earth. Above that, the lower courses of block will get thicker to 12". You still need concrete footings for block walls.

Are concrete or steel walls better for an inground swimming pool?

Steel walls are currently the lowest quality wall for a swimming pool, with the exception of Cyprus wood (if still available). Concrete (not gunite) is superior to any other wall, but a pool with concrete walls generally also has a concrete bottom. In other words, it is a concrete swimming pool. The most popular wall today for vinyl liner pools is fiberglass and, with the possible exception of concrete, is the best possible choice.

What are some benefits of using insulating concrete forms during building construction?

The benefit of using insulating concrete during building construction is that it keeps the heat outside in the summer and inside in the winter. Insulating concrete does this much better than standard concrete.

Do you have to Insulate interior walls?

The only reason that I have heard of for insulating interior walls was for sound deadening efforts. There is no heat gain or loss advantage to insulating interior walls.

How much does insulating interior walls help with sound?

Why might it be important to have material that does not conduct energy in the walls of a building in both the summer and the winter?

An insulating material is best because it gives the opposite effect of outside in the inner side e.g. are wood, wool, cork, hollow concrete blocks, hollow walls, glass, etc..

Will a stud detector work for concrete fiber walls?

No, a typical stud detector will not work for concrete fiber walls because they are designed to detect wooden studs, not concrete or metal. You will need a specialized detector that can detect changes in density for concrete walls.

What are concrete blocks normally used for?

Concrete blocks are large cement bricks used in construction. The main purpose of concrete blocks is for building foundations, basement walls, exterior and partition walls.

How can one prevent damp walls?

One can prevent damp walls by applying a sealant to the interior walls and floors of rooms in the space. One can also prevent damp walls by insulating windows and doors against humidity.

What is the best way to insulate a metal out building?
