My 2001 VW New Beetle TDI lost power and gas mileage at 110,000 miles. The problem was the Mass Air Flow Sensor. It is located on the the left side of the air filter box whey you face the engine with the hood open. A black plastic air tube fits into one side. An electrical connection clips into the middle, the right side slips into the air filter box. You need a screw driver to remove two screws from the side of the air filter box and pliars to squeeze the clamp holding the air tube. It can be ordered on e-bay for about $70 including shipping and takes about 10 minutes to install.
One way to calculate water content would be to take a sample of the matter in question, weigh it, evaporate off the water component, and then weigh it again. The difference in weight divided by the original weight would be the portion of it which was water, I believe. As I understand, the method geotechnical engineers use involves a machine squeezing water out of a sample. I haven't the slightest clue how that method works, if I'm even correct on that bit. I do know that their measurements for water saturation are volumetric in nature. Degree of saturation is given:Sw=Vw/Vv=Vw/Vt*[phi]=[theta]/[phi]
Answerremove the leather gaitor first, by unclipping it from the bottom of the surround..pull the gaitor upwards, so it looks like an inside out umbrella, theres a metal clip at the top, you need to cut that off, pull and twist up at the same time, it will come off with abit of forceremove the old gear knob fittings, put on your new knob and reverse the whole procedure, using a fresh jubilee clip under the gaitor the hold the knob in place...drive.. holding your new knob.IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO CUT THE CLIP. IT CAN BE PRIZED APART ENOUGH TO ALLOW THE KNOB TO COME OFF. JUST USE A POINTY OBJECT TO WIDEN THE CLIP OUT (I SUCESSFULLY USED A FORK).THEN ON THE REVERSE PROCEDURE, SIMPLY SQUEEZE IT BACK TOGETHER WITH A PAIR OF CRIMPERS OR PLIERS.
The formula you are looking for is, R = Volts (squared)/Watts.
Unless it's an old vw bug, cars usually run on a 12 volt dc system nowadays. Motorcycles often run on a 6 volt dc system. Different systems require different charging voltages so you won't ever be able to charge a 12 volt car battery from a 6 volt motorcycle battery charger as the output voltage would be way too low. However, if you can set the battery charger's output to give either a 6 or a 12 volt output, then you must always remember to set it to 12 volts if you want to use it to charge a 12 volt car battery.
