Hi, where there is no need of changing the value of resistor then why do you place variable resistor instead a fixed resistor. After all the selection of resistor depends on the cause of use in application. by the way wide range of resistor values are avilable in the market. if the application requires tuning operation then variable resistor is need to be mounted. nothing is mandatory unless the application requires. Use the standard resistor symbol and then place an arrow across the resistor. The bottom of the arrow midpoint of the resistor and just below, the tip of the arrow (draw with an arrow head) just above the resistor. This represents the wiper of the variable resistor.
It is the same, you can use ohm, µ, R or E to represent Ohm, like 2E2 or 2R2 = 2.2 Ohm and 2K2 = 2.2 Kilo Ohm also 2M2 will be 2.2 Mega Ohm.
Toasters and lightbulbs.AnswerA resistor is an circuit component. So, while toasters and light bulbs have resistance, they are not resistors!
In its simplest use a resistor in a circuit is used to limit the amount of current flow, or to decrease the amount of voltage applied to a device. One example is you had a 12 volt battery and you need/ wanted to connect it to a device that ran on 9 volts then a resistor can be chosen to reduce the 12 volts to the 9 volts required.
You can only use a resistor to drop a voltage at a constant current. If you know the current, use Ohm's law to calculate the resistor value.

Usually you'll need 100ohm resistor for each led. In this kind of setting, you will get the LED intensity nonuniform because of its differences due tolerance value. the best thing is to use LED driver IC. Another benefit of using LED driver is, you can mix red led with other color. Now, if we wanted to connect a red LED with a forward voltage of 1.8V and a current of 20mA directly to the transformer output then use the following equation: R=V/I = 9 / 0.02 = 450 Ohms. You could use 470 ohms from the E12 resistor series.

I installed a resistor inline with my oil pressure sensor. The resistor in a circuit will usually disperse energy as heat.
yes you can! you can use a multimeter and a resistor.
You need to use the 250 Ohm resistor in series with HART protocol communication because it acts as a shunt resistor.
No, Using a resistor spark plug with resistor wires can create too much resistance for the ignition system.
resistor is a passive component which opposes the current flowing through a closed ckt. use in opposition of current in ckt .
I wanna use resistor , capacitor and amplifier 7173 for switch alarm circuit. How can i choice resistor and capacitor value because i wanna use 24V DC.
A night light:)
Often we want to easily change a resistor value, so we use a variable resistor. For example, we may want to change the resistor that controls the power sent to a LED, so we can easily make it brighter or dimmer. Often if we use a variable resistor, there is only a very narrow range that is useful. Continuing our example, sometimes we use several LEDs, and we use the variable resistor to set them all to the same brightness. In this case, the resistance range that sets the LED to be twice as bright as the the other LEDs, and the resistance range that sends so much power to the LED that it is permanently destroyed is even less useful. So we add a fixed resistor in series with the variable resistor -- the fixed resistor sets the minimum net resistance, no matter how we turn the knob on the variable resistor. In our example, the addition of the fixed resistor allows us to turn the variable resistor throughout its whole range, and the LED gets brighter and dimmer; without that resistor, a certain range of the knob on the variable resistor would allow so much power to go to the LED that it would be destroyed.
