George Barris created the Bat mobile from a Ford Futura concept car. Ford created the 1962 Futura concept car, test marketed it for a short time and eventually sold it to George Barris. Barris built a number of famous TV cars in the 60 including the Adams Family's roadster.
If it wasn't for the very short production schedule, the bat mobile may have ended up looking very different. Since Barris didn't have time to create something from scratch which he may have done, he looked around the lot and saw the Futura. If you ever see a picture of the Futura, you will see that Barris didn't have to do much to create the first generation Bat mobile.
