Hello,
There are many symptoms of a bad alternator that you should pay attention to:
If your alternator is not working properly it might affect how the alternator belt is turning. An alternator that is not working properly will make an audible sound. Removing the alternator belt can confirm if noise is coming from the alternator.
Another symptom is if anything electrical slows (windows, seats, etc) or the lights dim while you are driving.
Yet another symptom is experiencing difficulties starting your car. This could be an issue with the battery, so make sure that you check the terminals and note the age of the battery. If your battery frequently discharges then this is another sign of a bad alternator.
Hope this helps!
i need to know where the alternator is located on a 1990 Lexus LS400
When your battery does not get charge.
take it to autozone
it may be the starter going out doing it . it will kill the alternator if it keeps going . I know i had it happen to my 96 olds replaced the alt still didnt start and the starter fixed it
Signs that your alternator is going bad will include but not be limited to: Electronics such as Stereo, CB, Etc turn off. Gauges such as Speedometer and Tach read in accurately or stop functioning. Motor won't start.
If your vehicle has a voltometer, the power will be low. If not, you can usually tell by dimming of the headlights or other electrical systems
If you can't take off the battery cable while running without the car dieing.
Get a "multimeter" which is a device that measures many electrical currents and put the positive and negatives on the corisponding terminals of the alternator you should be getting a reading of 12 to 14 volts if this doesn't happen then your alternator is'nt working properly
Connect a voltmenter to batteryWith a fully charged battery reading should be around 12.8 without engine running With engine running reading should be 13.8-14.2 if not alternator is most likely bad Bring to an auto parts store to have checked
Usually no warning signs unless a bearing is going bad, Other than that it just stops charging the battery. what about overcharging? alternator is 10 months old, as is battery, same problem
Lexus doesn't have its own HQ. Lexus was created by Toyota. If you would like to know where Toyota's HQ is, it's in Japan.
Output of the alternator is controlled by the voltage regulator.
