The Toyota Prius has electric AC, the gasoline engine will only run at idle with the ac when the battery drops below 50 %. The Power Steering is also electric. The same is also true for the Ford Escape hybrid. When you run the air conditioning, the gas engine will run until the a/c is fully charged then it will run off battery power.
The downside of this is that you are deep cycling the batteries and shortening the life.
The battery is weak and needs replaced. when the battery is weak the computer can forget how to idle.
Bad idle air control motor. ADDED: this could be the culprit but another thing to check is the condition of the battery. I have had a weak/discharged battery able to start the vehicle, but not have enough voltage or amps to run the electronics on the engine. You would have to hold your foot on the accelerator to keep vehicle running.
Hi, The battery has enough power to turn the starter, but not enough to run the computer. You can test it this way. As you try to start the engine, give it a little gas to keep the engine running above idle. If it runs above idle then dies at idle it is the battery. I have had this happen twice in the 10 years with my 2000 Durango.
Need to erase keep alive memory then idle for at least 15 minutes
Turn the idle down.
Keep engine running idle speed
Check the alternator.
Because u are pullin powert from the battery which makes the alternator kick on to keep the battery charged.....
market failure can occur when there is no money left to keep it running
Buy a new battery: that's a bad sign. just keep running it
The computer's power, or its ability to stay powered on and running, is maintained by the charge in the battery. The battery's electricity is used by the computer to keep running. If there is no charge in the battery, or the battery is removed, the computer will shut off and will not be able to be powered up.
The battery is kept charged by a generator or magneto when the engine is running. It is located under the flywheel.
