As with most vehicles, with coolant reservoir full, engine running, warmed up and hood open, feel the heater hoses with your hands. If both hoses are luke warm or cold, you may need a new thermostat. If one hose is hot and the other is luke warm or cold, the heater core is probably plugged up, in which case you can try flushing the heater core. If both hoses are hot, you probably have a problem with the temp blend door in the HVAC system behind the dash assembly.
Probably the coolant temperature sensor. That's what it is on an '86.
haynes manual for complete tear down and rebuild helped me through all my celica projects. p.s. my celica is an '87 gts i think the book's details ranges from '86-'93 or something like that. is was an amazing investment.
In the United States and Canada, the 86-89 3SGE engine are the same except for the location of the EGR tube. The 86-87 has an external EGR that hooked to the exhaust manifold. The 88-89 has an internal EGR that routes back into the cylinder head. The GT4, Alltrac, turbo was only on the 88-89 in the United States and Canada. 1987-89 celica engines are the same, besides the alltrac series which come with four wheel drive and a turbocharged engine

The starter relay on an 86 Toyota Celica is used to provide power to the starter when the engine is cranked. It also prevents damage as a result of overheating or overdraw.

rror code e-86 for most topcons is a communication error between the instrument and the data collector. MOst common causes are a loose/bad cable or low batterypower in the collector.
I'm not fully sure about the 86 year/model, but I did have an 86 Corrola and there were 4 screws mounted 2 at the top corners of the faceplate and 2 inside where the ash tray is located. I own a '92 celica and you first have to pull/un-snap the cover around the shifter. Then you remove the 2 screws at the bottom of the coverplate around the radio (it's at the crux of the radio coverplate and the shifter coverplate). Once you remove those 2 screws, the rest snaps out easily.
ironically, 86
