What is the MOSAIC Web broswer developed at the University of Illinois?
Mosaic was the first graphical web browser. Mosaic was
originally developed by Eric Bina and Marc Andreessen at the
National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the
University of Ilinois at Urbana-Champagne. Mosaic ran only on Unix
systems under X-Windows for some time before eventually being
ported to other operating systems such as Microsoft Windows.
Eventually Marc Andreessen, one of the authors of Mosaic, along
with Jim Clark formerly of Silicon Graphics, and several others,
joined to form Mosaic Communications Corp. which eventually morphed
into Netscape Communications Corp. [JMH]
